Course Description

Choose the Certified Training Professional (CTP) ‘Train the Trainer’ Programme to develop your training skills and become a QQI/FETAC Level 6 qualified trainer. The CTP programme comprises two component modules:

Completing both modules (at a discount price of just €795) leads to the QQI Level 6 Special Purpose Award in Training and Development, (6S3372).

If you are an experienced trainer this course will keep your qualification up to date and maintain your place on the ICS Skills 'Train the Trainer' register.

Irish Computer Society

If booked separately, the Training Needs Identification and Design module (3x Saturdays) costs €395 and the Training Delivery and Evaluation module (4x Saturdays) €495.

 Exemptions

Learners may carry forward existing minor awards (components) as exemptions towards new common major and special purpose awards, where they are appropriate. This means that in 2016 certificates dated before the equivalent month in 2011 cannot be used for the purpose of exemption. In 2017, the cut-off year will be 2012, etc.

The QQI Special Purpose Award 6S3372 Training and Development has two components:

  • 6N3326 Training Delivery and Evaluation
  • 6N3325 Training Needs Identification and Design

The following exemptions apply in relation to QQI Special Purpose Award 6S3372 Training and Development:

  • Holders of QQI E30179 Train the Trainer may gain an exemption towards 6N3326 Training Delivery and Evaluation.
  • Holders of QQI L32686 Training the Trainer may gain an exemption towards 6N3325 Training Needs Identification and Design.

CTP Programme Delivery and Assessment

7 Classroom days

7 x classroom days

Candidates will attend seven days of instructor-led tuition that will include engaging in practical activities.

250 Self-study Hours

250 x self-study hours

Candidates are expected, with tutor support, to pursue up to 250 hours of self-directed learning, research, and written exercises.

1 Portfolio submission

1 x portfolio

Candidates will be expected to produce an assignment portfolio and video as evidence of their training competence.

Knowing the Organisation

  • How to recognise the impact of an organisation's structure and culture on training needs.
  • Learn how you can identify and overcome barriers to learning in an organisation.

Making the Case

  • How to make the business case for training and development at all levels.
  • Outlining the benefits of a Training Needs Analysis (TNA).

Performing the TNA

  • Develop a TNA based on Instructional System Design (ISD) models.
  • Devise a training plan based on prioritised training needs to include a cost-benefit analysis.

Creating the Programme

  • Integrating motivation theories, learning objectives and Instructional Systems Design (ISD).
  • Creating a training programme, incorporating design factors and adult learning principles

Selecting Your Tools

  • Selecting the appropriate evaluation techniques and monitoring tools to be used.
  • Learn to outline the delivery concepts of training programmes.

Delivery and Feedback

  • Delivering the right training content and materials through a range of training aids.
  • How to provide constructive feedback to your course participants.

Measuring Success

  • Devising the training evaluation process; including stakeholders, feedback and challenges.
  • Determining whether training needs were fulfilled and identifying further training needs.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Presenting your evaluation report and recognised areas of success.
  • Analysing your performance as a trainer.

The CTP Programme will be delivered at the headquarters of the Irish Computer Society (ICS), located on Pembroke Road, Dublin 4.

The venue offers state-of-the-art classroom facilities, and is accessible by bus and DART.

CTP tutor Hannah Gleave has a strong passion for education and training, with a philosophy focusing on encouragement and facilitation.

Hannah will provide the class with professional, personal support through a combination of guided tuition, peer-learning, practical activities, and self-study advice.

Hannah's experience includes lecturing in UCD to classes of over 150 students. Among her many qualifications are a Masters in Information Behaviour.

CTP ‘Train the Trainer’ Professional Recognition

Successful candidates will receive dual-certification – from Ireland's national certifier QQI and from the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) Foundation.

  • The QQI Level 6 Special Purpose Award in Training and Development, (6S3372).
  • The Certified Training Professional (CTP) award from the ECDL Foundation, an internationally recognised qualification in training and development.

On successful completion of the CTP Train the Trainer programme, graduates will be eligible for inclusion on the ICS Skills national register of certified trainers.
